- Career:
The rebellion in the North of Haiti created the Republique du Nord in April 1868, but no navy could be created until July 1869. The North purchased two steamers (Mont Organisé and République) in the United States and captured another (Artibonite) in Haiti. After arming the ships, the Northern Navy defeated the government fleet at Le Borgne on 14 September. Two more steamers (Salnave and Pétion) were captured at Le Cap in November. The North-South coalition eventually defeated the Government in December 1869 and the Northern ships formed the backbone of the new Haitian Navy.
